Fashioning the Past: Memories of California Fashions

A factory on the Blayney Road has been home to a variety of manufacturing businesses over the decades, including the notable clothing company California Fashions.  During this tour, historians from the Bathurst District Historical Society will help uncover the site’s rich history, share insights and stories from former employees of the fashion manufacturer. Visitors will also enjoy a display of garments produced by California Fashions during the 1950s and 1960s, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the company’s contribution to Bathurst’s industrial heritage.

Monthly Talking History: Keith Painter on Melvin Vaniman Panoramic Photographer

Melvin Vaniman was an American photographer and adventurer who visited New Zealand and Australia in 1902-1904.  Vaniman’s speciality at the time was taking panorama photos, often from the top of a pole or a ship’s mast.  Vanimans Lookout at Katoomba is named after him, when he and the Katoomba postmaster at the time discovered the rock promontory.

The Life & Rhymes of Banjo Paterson

125th Anniversary of Banjo Paterson’s Bathurst presentation.  Australia’s most famous poet, Banjo Paterson, presented lectures in the Bathurst School of Arts on the Boer War on the 26 and 27 April 1901.  Well-known poet Gregory North is re-enacting Banjo’s tour and will present his show, “The Life & Rhymes of Banjo Paterson”.
