This is the first issue of The New Country, a history journal published by the Bathurst District Historical Society.
It is the hope of the Society that their journal will provide a forum for historians, both local and from elsewhere, to present their research on the history of the “new country”. The focus of the journal will be on the history of the Bathurst region with a variety of topics.
This edition includes an introduction by Robin McLachlan, Editor; The Oberon - Tarana Branch Line by Rick Fletcher and Col Bembrick; The Vortex of Dissipation Lieutenant Seymour in Bathurst by Dr Robin McLachlan; and “Bathurst’s Best Friend “Christopher Augustus Kelly, MLA by Dr Robert Tierney.
