Kelso - The Church's Gateway to the West
Kelso ( originally designated Bathurst) was Australia’s first inland parish. Its church, Holy Trinity, is the first built west of the Blue Mountains, and the first in Australia to be consecrated by a Bishop. Brief accounts of the history of the Anglican parish have been written over the years.
This new book coincides with the 175th anniversary of the opening and dedication of the church in 1835. It is the first comprehensive history of Holy Trinity, Kelso and other places of worship through the parish. John Ellis draws on sources not accessed by earlier writers. New materials includes Archdeacon Scott’s letter book, the Rev Hassall’s journal, records of the Church and Schools Corporation, the Rev Kean’s sketch and contract for converting a barn to a place of worship and the specifications and drawings for building the church.
