Although not as ingrained in the Australian psyche as Ned Kelly, bushranger Ben Hall has developed a presence in both Australian history and local folklore. He was the topic of some of the earliest silent films in Australia, as well as a number of folk songs (''Streets of Forbes'' the most well-known). A locally produced television series appeared shortly before Monty Wedd took to telling his version of Bold Ben Hall in the late 1970s.
